Job Description

Position Summary: The Lead Grants and Contracts Accountant will oversee the grants and contracts accounting pre- and post-award functions for the organization. FSRI is a collaborative working environment, and this position will work closely with program leads and Development to prepare budgets, maintain awards, and to meet reporting requirements, playing a critical part in achieving and maintaining funding goals. The Lead Grants and Contracts Accountant is an important member of the Finance team who will also perform accounting operations functions and support the annual audit and budget processes.


Qualifications:

A genuine commitment to Family Service of Rhode Island’s mission.
Knowledge of automated accounting systems, preferably Great Plains.
Experience in financial analysis, financial management and not-for-profit accounting.
Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook-advanced MS Excel user strongly preferred and software related to electronic billing, budgeting, and management information systems is a plus.
Ability to manage pre- and post-award financial functions for complex grants from multiple sources (federal, state, local and others).
Exceptional ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a sense of urgency when appropriate.
Independent judgment and the ability to work with little supervision are necessary.
Ability to adapt GAAP, FASB, and other federal, state, and local regulations and requirements to FSRI financial information; ability to keep abreast of accounting pronouncements and industry best practices with respect to revenue recognition and grants/contracts financial reporting for not-for-profits and other regulations and requirements, such as CFRs.
Ability to communicate (both in writing and orally) in a clear, diplomatic, friendly, effective manner.
Keen attention to detail and strong degree of accuracy.
Flexible mindset, with the ability to pivot as priorities change.
Tremendous integrity and dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related degree; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
