ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Mount Pleasant Academy, a dynamic treatment facility for children with emotional and psychiatric challenges, is seeking a part-time Art Teacher. The position is 16 hours/week September through June (starts January 2022), with an option for a 7-week summer rotation. Responsibilities include instructing students grades K-8 in art instruction and appreciation using multiple media. Classrooms are limited to no more than 6 students with plenty of staff support. We seek a creative, engaging, energetic individual to motivate and excite our students! Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes classroom teachers, mental health providers, occupational and speech therapists.



SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Weekly instruction of students.
Creation and implementation of lesson plans.
Lesson coordination with classroom teachers
One-on-one work with students as needed
Grade reporting and documentation
Behavior management, crisis intervention.
Participation in multidisciplinary treatment team.
Schoolwide artistic projects/exhibits
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

(Required) RI certification as Teacher of Art Instruction (elementary).
Experience with ED children.
Experience working with elementary-aged students.
Computer literacy.
Possession of a valid drivers license, reliable transportation and auto insurance also required (preferred)


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires attendance of field trips and possible home visits on occasion. Employees in this position must have the ability to:



Travel to and from community locations and office site, which could include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Ability to communicate by voice, use sight and hearing.
