ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: APRIs Bilingual HIV Health Equity Specialist will serve as a statewide leader in addressing health inequity among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Rhode Island. The Bilingual HIV Health Equity Specialist develops and implements activities related to APRIs MSM sexual health and equity initiative, which proactively addresses barriers to sexual health, mental health, and physical health among the MSM community. Activities include developing and implementing community engagement activities, recruiting steering committee and focus group participants, actively engaging with and advocating for the MSM community. The Bilingual HIV Health Equity Specialist will also provide HIV/HCV testing, prevention, and sexual health education services.


Participates in the design and preparation of activities, events, and services for MSM, focusing on Spanish-speaking individuals.
Recruits MSM to participate in steering committees, focus groups, and testing and prevention services. This includes outreaching clients on social and sexual networking applications utilized by MSM (e.g., Facebook, Grindr).
Builds and maintains positive, working relationships with community members, community organizations, colleges, and other service providers.
Provides Spanish language interpretation as required to assist in-person and at-home HIV testing clients.
Assists with translating forms, documents, and other materials into Spanish.
Performs comprehensive rapid HIV and hepatitis C testing services following the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) guidelines.
Conducts follow-ups to verify that referred clients are linked to and receive care.
Maintains accurate and complete participant records.
Adheres to all APRI policies and procedures, including those relating to HIPPA requirements, client confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and more.
Acts as client advocate, responding with empathy and respect to resolve client concerns, and recognizes opportunities for improvement to meeting client concerns.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Bachelors or associates degree, with two years of relevant work experience.
Experience with HIV service programs and services preferred.
Knowledge of and demonstrated sensitivity to LGBTQ+ communities, racial and ethnic minorities, and those impacted by HIV and substance abuse.
Possession of a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance required to travel throughout Rhode Island.
Have documentation of completing Rhode Island Qualified Professional Test Counselor (QPTC) training, or be willing to obtain QPTC certification upon being hired.
Must be willing to work some evening and weekend hours.
Bilingual English/Spanish is required, with excellent oral and written communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires community visits, employees in this position must have the ability to:

Use walkways, stairs and elevators
Push, pull, lift, and carry up to 20lbs
Sit continuously for up to two hours
Stand continuously for up to two hours
Walk as needed
Stoop or bend as needed
Drive within the community
Communicate effectively
