This is a hands-on accounting position that will support the VP of Finance in the creation of financial and statistical information for decision-making and reporting purposes. Ensure processes that measure compliance with the agency’s policies and procedures are adhered to.


Preparation of grant/award budgets and required financial reports. Ensure agency adheres to all federal, state, and local funding requirements.
Prepare and maintain monthly Grant/Project Tracking report. Work with Senior Grant Writer and Program staff to ensure funds are used timely and in accordance with the awards purpose.
Assist in the preparation of organization regulatory filings.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
Reconciles accounts and contractual obligations by comparing, correcting data, performing analysis of financial activity and research any variances
Maintain revenue forecast and billing schedule reports
Responsible for researching and resolving billing discrepancies
Resolving aging accounts receivables issues
Meet on a regular basis with the program coordinators to monitor program budget
Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline oriented department with a mindset of customer service and team work
Prepare post and analyze journal entries to GL
Special projects/assignments as requested
Prepares written requests to funding sources to revise contracts, grants and proposals
Meets with program directors to review results
Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll in the absence of payroll coordinator
Other duties as assigned


Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in Accounting or Finance;
Knowledge of automated accounting systems preferably Great Plains;
Five + years’ progressive experience in financial analysis, financial management and not for profit accounting;
Proficiency of Excel, Word, and Outlook-advanced MS Excel user preferred plus other software related to electronic billing, budgeting and management information systems;
Experience in monitoring complex grant budgets, managing government grants and reporting and applying accounting principle;
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines and complete items on time;
Independent judgment and the ability to work with little supervision are necessary.
Ability to adapt generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to Family Service of Rhode Island financial information;
Strong communication skills (written and oral) ability to communicate in a diplomatic, friendly, yet effective manner with all staff throughout the agency;
Strong degree of accuracy;
Strong attention to detail.
