Position Summary:
The AmeriCorps Member will serve as Community Outreach Resource and Engagement Advocate (CORE Advocate), providing information and food resources to underserved individuals, families, and communities. CORE Advocates will support FSRIs Be Safe Program through the distribution and delivery of free food items to high need areas of Rhode Island. CORE Advocates will be regarded as a representative of the agency, and serve as a vital point person for connecting clients with potential public service resources. CORE Advocates will be trained on the programs and services within Family Service of RI, to empower them in their ability to support clients. CORE Advocates will receive training on other public service organizations in Providence, to ensure their ability to connect residents with the needed services.


Members will participate in ongoing training for approx. 15 hours/ month, have opportunities for team-building and reflection, and will be fully supported by Family Service of RI staff to ensure success. Part-Time Members serve 24 hours per week, primarily Mondays through Fridays with schedule to be determined.


Essential Responsibilities:

Serve as representative of FSRI within the community to ensure community residents are connected with appropriate social services.
Follow up via phone call with food recipients who have questions, concerns, or needs
Connect with food recipients via phone and email prior to distribution
Unload, pack, and prepare food for distribution.
Recruit volunteers to assist with distribution.
Support Be Safe food delivery throughout each week.
Complete data collection and other program documentation as required in a timely and acceptable manner
Adhere to FSRI expectations regarding confidentiality of client information
Participate in and support all mandatory days of service as well as additional *volunteer/service opportunities as it relates to the community
Participate in AmeriCorps Member team meetings, scheduled trainings, and both group and individual supervision meetings

Qualifications:

Have experience with and/or commitment to social equity and community development.
A strong passion for national and community service.
The desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities.
Positive attitude, flexibility and adaptability.
Excellent organization and communication skills.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Interest in nonprofit organizations.
Proven leadership and project management abilities as well as previous experience, education or training in human services, community engagement or food access is a plus but not required.
Ability to speak a second language- in addition to English- is a plus, but is not required.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent US Resident.
Must be age 18 or over.

AmeriCorps Service Requirements:

Full-time AmeriCorps members: Serve an average of 24hrs per week during the program year (ends 6/30/23).
Attend all required AmeriCorps training and learning sessions including National Service Days/events.
Complete all required AmeriCorps background checks and service documentation.
