Job Description
FSRI is always looking for candidates that want to make a positive impact on the community we serve in!
About Us:
At Family Service of Rhode Island (FSRI), we succeed by lifting others. Founded in 1892, our long history of non-profit service has always been tailored to meet the unique and ever-changing needs of the diverse Rhode Island community in which we serve. We have three offices located in Providence, but our employees provide impactful services state-wide. We are engaged, committed, and passionate about our work helping others, and care deeply about our mission to advance equity, opportunity, and hope in our communities.
Family Service of RI (FSRI) is looking for a creative and caring individual who is motivated to serve the Providence community and interested in becoming a VISTA Volunteer serving within FSRI's Hope Division! Our VISTA project goal is to create a Volunteer Program that will support FSRI's programs addressing food insecurity, equitable access to resources, and school success.
Position Summary:
Design and Pilot an effective Volunteer Program supporting multiple service and support initiatives associated with FSRI's work with children and families in Providence. The VISTA member will work to create a Volunteer Program based upon best practices in volunteer recruitment and retention designed to meet the need for a cadre of volunteers to assist with many of FSRI's programs including but not limited to the Walking School Bus, historically operated at two Providence elementary schools, and the Be Safe program that alleviates food insecurity through home delivery of supplemental food to those in need.
Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is a national anti-poverty program designed to provide needed resources to nonprofit organizations and public agencies to increase their capacity to lift communities out of poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA provides opportunities for Americans 18 years or older from a diverse range of backgrounds to dedicate a year of full-time service with an organization (“sponsor”) to create or expand programs designed to empower individuals and communities in overcoming poverty. VISTA members receive a modest living allowance to cover basic expenses during their service term and the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award which can be used to pay for a range of educational expenses, like repaying qualified student loans or future tuition payments. Individuals in approved AmeriCorps positions are eligible for forbearance for most federally-guaranteed student loans and interest payments that accrue during service may be eligible for repayment by AmeriCorps. In addition, VISTA service provides Professional Development opportunities that can jump-start your career and help you gain transferable skills that employers value including leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving. FSRI will help interested candidates complete their AmeriCorps VISTA online applications.
