Members will also support and expand route development, facilitation and monitoring, and recruitment, training and retention of volunteers for PCI’s Walking School Bus, which pairs community volunteers with children who benefit from support getting to school safely and on time, daily exercise, and positive relationships with caring adults. Members organize summer block party events held in the Lower South Providence community by researching past block parties to identify successes and improve upon challenges, work with a community committee to brainstorm ideas, write grant requests for funding, create an implementation plan, engage and involve community partners and stakeholders in supporting the event, and work with PCI and Development staff to execute and evaluate the events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Members will work on two main projects:

Improving connections to area resources by becoming familiar with services, developing relationships with providers, planning awareness events, and working with parents and the school community to develop capacity (including a functional PTO) to link parents to needed services.
Supporting school attendance and daily exercise through the Walking School Bus program by developing capacity to recruit, screen, and place volunteers with the existing Walking School Bus at Fogarty Elementary School, and evaluate capacity, develop and implement a Walking School Bus program at Young Woods Elementary School.
Members will assist the PCI Project Manager with other projects or tasks as they are developed.
