Job Description

Brown University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking applicants for a Community Relations and Outreach Manager. Located in historic Providence, Rhode Island, DPS is a fully-sworn, nationally accredited law enforcement department with over 85 highly trained staff who are committed to serving and protecting a diverse campus community of over 12,000 members. The Community Relations and Outreach Manager plays a key role in building and maintaining active relationships between DPS and the diverse interest groups that comprise the Brown community. The Manager delivers awareness and communication facilitation, acts as a resource for individuals and groups, and provides education to the community on prevention techniques and available programs and resources. The Manager participates in the coordination and delivery of victim/witness support services, is responsible for coordinating the department’s diversity awareness development initiatives, and develops new programs to meet the changing needs of the community. The Manager creates and implements outreach programs and crime prevention initiatives, particularly in the areas of personal safety, sexual assault, domestic violence, and bias-related/hate crimes.

Requirements

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Administration, Education, Counseling or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience
Three to five years’ management experience, preferably in higher education, a community organization, or law enforcement.
`
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and team build. Experience delivering presentations to large groups a plus.
• Highly developed communication and relational skills to interact positively, cooperatively, and collaboratively with officers and community members.
• Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, as well as relevant computer systems/technology experience.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• General command of current issues in campus affairs, diversity and inclusion, and sexual assault/domestic violence.
• Ability to understand and operate in a complex campus environment and to create collaborative networks across multiple academic, administrative, and student constituencies.
• Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community required.
• Demonstrated capacity for planning, management, project oversight
• Proven ability to work independently and as part of collaborative teams
• Demonstrated ability to effectively present information
